A peregrine falcon in a golden cage

The things that happen on the way to the library when the data volume is reduced. This is the first lines I wrote back in Germany.

A falcon:

The fastest hunter in the world - the peregrine falcon. Inconspicuous from the outside, but if you know it better, it burns itself into your memory with its sharp look.

Like a peregrine falcon I have flown through the world the last months. Been free, fought my way beyond personal and geographical boundaries, chased and tore experiences and burned myself into the memory of some who got to know me better with a sharp eye. I saw impressive things, had breathtaking intercultural experiences and was able to make my time extraordinary.

Back home:

Now I am back after all the poor countries, all the suffering and all the ongoing hopeless struggles - back in a country full of wealth, full of new Audis and Mercedes, full of motorcycles with more than 200ccm, full of gliders and other riches that would be unthinkable anywhere else in the world. Full of direct and indirect security, progress and exploitative prosperity. There is an abundance of professional and leisure activities on offer and yet I hardly find it - that lighthearted gleam in the eyes.

Yet it is precisely we, the people from the countries of opportunity, who should be the ones leading a carefree and radiant life! All the opportunities we have are destroying us, consumption is twisting our value system and most people simply no longer appreciate what they have.

I'm back - back in the golden cage, on my way to the library, to rock on for another 10 hours a day and together with many others to make the golden cage even more golden than it already is. But do I manage to keep my value system humane, to appreciate the basic things in life, to have a radiance in my eyes and soul and to go through the world smiling? I hope so and I will try to remember the values of the flying peregrine falcon and let go of the urge to have more and more.
